After years of attending the annual NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center, longtime musical instrument and audio industries marketer Laura B. Whitmore realized that she didn’t know too many other women within the industry.
In 2012, she founded the Women’s International Music Network (WiMN) and got the go-ahead to host a small breakfast during NAMM. She invited all women working in a variety of different capacities within the music field to share their stories and chat about their accomplishments.
Previously held inside the Anaheim Hilton’s Pacific Ballroom, the 6th Annual She Rocks Awards and its presentations and performances have outgrown that venue and moved into the adjacent brand new House of Blues at Anaheim GardenWalk where it will be held during the NAMM Show on Friday, Jan. 26. A NAMM badge is not required to attend the She Rocks Awards and tickets can be purchased at thewimn.com.
Each year, She Rocks Awards pay tribute to women who stand out and are positive role models within the music industry including musicians, creative directors, publicists, studio managers, media professionals, those working in the sales and merchandising of musical instruments and more. This year’s honorees include Pat Benatar, Melissa Etheridge, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson of The B-52’s, Exene Cervenka of X and Jean Millington Adamian, June Millington, Brie Howard Darling, Patti Quatro Ericson and Alice de Buhr of the all-female rock band Fanny.
